Around 2 in the morning, in a heavily curtained room in Florida, with only screens lighting the dark room. sat the most powerful man in the world in front of those screens. US President Donald Trump. Trump wasn't snacking on popcorn while watching the screens. It wasn't a movie. Instead, he was watching his army on a live feed, attacking a house thousands of miles away. This house was located in the capital of Venezuela, Caracas. The Venezuelan President, Nicolas Maduro, was sleeping in this house. In his deep sleep, he was completely unaware that he was about to be kidnapped in a few minutes. A while ago, American helicopters, flying merely 100 feet above the ocean, entered Venezuelan territory. These helicopters were so close to the ground that they weren't detected on radar. In a cyber attack, the power supply to Caracas was disrupted earlier. The city was engulfed in darkness. And then the Delta Force commandos got down from the helicopter using ropes, right on the roof of Maduro's house. Without making much noise, they entered the bedroom through the window. The bedroom where Maduro was sleeping on his bed. At this point, Maduro woke up. And he tried to escape to his steel-reinforced safe room. The commandos chased after him. He reached the door, but couldn't close it. The soldiers caught up to him before that. Within five minutes, the Venezuelan President was captured by the American forces. Donald Trump later told the Fox News, "It was just like watching television." "If you would have seen what happened, I mean, I watched it literally like I was watching a TV show." It felt like watching TV to him. But this was not a TV show. This was the most shocking military operation in modern history. Where America kidnapped the elected president of a sovereign country from his residence. When this news broke the next morning on news channels, it shocked the world. "Venezuela's long-time President is out of power. In the midnight operation called Absolute Resolve, the US arrested Nicolas Maduro, from the heart of Caracas." There were 2 pressing questions. First, why did America do this? And second, is it this easy for America to kidnap the president or prime minister of another country? If yes, then what about international order? Now, let's get back to the topic. Friends, this operation to capture a sitting president wasn't accomplished overnight. The planning began months ago. When the world believed that everything was normal in Venezuela, in August 2025, the CIA had secretly sent a small team to Venezuela. This team was tasked with tracking Maduro's movements. Where does he live? Where does he travel? What does he eat? What does he wear? And even details of his pets. Everything was tracked. Apart from this, the CIA had a source working within the Venezuelan government. This insider was sharing information about Maduro's exact location and movements with America. It sounds quite simple. But in reality, this was a dangerous mission. This CIA team did not have any diplomatic cover. Had they been caught, America could not have done anything officially. Just like how it's shown in the movies, the ground was being prepared for the operation. They were waiting for a trigger. There is a phone call between Trump and Maduro in November 2025. On this call, Trump clearly told Maduro to give up his power and his country. Saying that would be the best option for him. In a way, this was an ultimatum from Trump to Maduro. But Maduro refused. Secretary of State Marco Rubio later stated in a press conference, that generous offers were given to Nicolas Maduro to avoid this, but he refused their deals. "But I want to be clear about one thing, Nicolas Maduro had multiple options to avoid this. He was provided multiple very, very, very, generous offers, and chose, instead, to act like a wild man. Chose, instead, to play around. And the result was what we saw tonight." On Maduro's refusal, the advanced stage of this operation began. America's actions after this sound straight out of the scenes from Mission Impossible. In Kentucky, the American forces created an exact duplicate of Maduro's residence. The Delta Force commandos rehearsed the operation there. Additionally, America deployed fighter jets, Navy special operations aircraft, and Reaper drones around Venezuela. At the beginning of December, the White House felt that there were gaps in Maduro's support system. But this was proven wrong. After this, on 25th December, Christmas day, Trump approved the operation. The operation was to be carried out around Christmas because a large number of Venezuelan soldiers go on leave during this time. But a problem came up. Venezuela had bad weather then. Because of this, the operation had to be on standby for many days. America kept waiting for the right conditions. Finally, on 2nd January 2026, the weather cleared a bit and at 10:46 PM, Trump gave the final go-ahead. And after that, began an unprecedented operation. After Trump's order, more than 150 American military aircraft took off from 20 different bases. After that, in a cyber operation, they cut off power supply to Caracas. The city was engulfed in darkness. People had no idea what was happening. And then, airstrikes were carried out. The radar and air defence systems around Caracas were destroyed. So that the helicopters could infiltrate even more easily. Friends, 40 people lost their lives in this. In the meantime, the American helicopters flew only 100 feet above the ocean, on their way to Caracas. At 2:01 AM, these helicopters reached Maduro's compound. Once there, the guards fired at them. One of the helicopters was hit, but it kept flying. Meanwhile, the Delta Force commandos entered the building with a blast. And within three minutes, they reached Maduro's location. All this while, Maduro was sleeping with his wife Celia Flores. Once he saw the commandos, Maduro ran towards his steel-reinforced safe room. But the soldiers captured him. Within 5 minutes of getting into the building, Maduro was captured by the Delta Force. From there, he was taken by helicopter to the USS Iwo Jima. And then, he was taken to the Guantanamo Bay military base in Cuba. And then, on an aeroplane, on Saturday evening, Maduro was taken to the Stewart Air National Guard Base in New York. These photos of Maduro were later publicly released. Another country's president was on American soil in chains. But the question was, why did America do this? Trump supporters say that Maduro was a dictator. That's why it was done to restore democracy in Venezuela. To restore human rights. Trump claimed that it was done because of drug trafficking. But friends, the real reason here is oil. To put it very bluntly. Look at this graph. Venezuela has the highest amount of proven crude oil reserves in the world. 303 billion barrels of oil. More than oil-producing nations like Saudi Arabia, Iran, and even America. But these weren't discovered until fairly recently. Oil was discovered in Venezuela in 1922. And by 1929, Venezuela had become the second-largest oil producer in the world. After this, American oil companies started operating in Venezuela on a large scale. Everyone wanted Venezuelan oil. Because Venezuelan oil is a little different. It is heavier and more sour than the rest. It's used to produce diesel, asphalt, and fuel for factories. While the crude oil produced in America is said to be light and sweet. It's used to produce petrol only. By the 1970s, most of American refineries were built for Venezuelan oil. Then in 1976, Venezuela established its own oil company PDVSA. Until then, America had no problem with Venezuela. In fact, in 1963, President John F. Kennedy called the Venezuelan president 'America's best friend in South America.' The problems began in 1999, when Hugo Chavez became the President of Venezuela. And in the 2000s, he nationalised the oil industry. In 2001, he passed the Organic Hydrocarbons Law. This law declared state ownership over all oil and gas reserves in Venezuela. This meant that the American companies had to leave the country. Friends, you need to understand that in America, the government policies are often guided by billionaires. These companies pressured President George Bush to take action against Chavez. "The Bush administration made it clear it is happy with the change in leadership, in the country responsible for 15% of America's oil imports." After that, in 2002, America tried to engineer a coup in Venezuela. Tried to overthrow the government. But this coup failed. Now, strictly speaking, Venezuela is a sovereign, independent country. If its leaders and the government decide to nationalise Venezuelan oil, and don't allow American oil companies to carry on business there, then it's their choice. But because the American government is a puppet of the corporations, it could not tolerate this. This is why, in 2005, America imposed sanctions on Venezuela. They are still in place. In 2013, Chavez passed away, and Maduro came to power. In 2019, during Trump's first term, Venezuela's national oil company PDVSA's crude exports were blocked. America pressured other countries not to buy oil from Venezuela. Today, Venezuela produces only 1 million barrels per day, which is only 0.8% of global production. But the fact remains that even now, Venezuela has 303 billion barrels of proven reserves. One-fifth of the world's total reserves. The biggest proof that Trump did all of this only for oil is his statements. Because the day after the operation, do you know what Trump said? "It was the greatest theft in the history of America. They took oil away from us." He called it a theft. Venezuela not allowing American oil companies to capture their oil. Called that a theft. After this, Trump announced that American oil companies will go to Venezuela, invest billions and rebuild the infrastructure. But someone needs to ask him, how was Venezuela stealing? Venezuela's oil belongs to Venezuela. If they took over control of their resources, how is that theft? Trump knows that American refineries need Venezuelan heavy crude. At present, China is buying buys 68% of Venezuela's oil. And America couldn't make peace with it. On the other hand, Trump's official justification to arrest Maduro like this is drug trafficking. Maduro and his wife Celia Flores have been indicted in the Southern District of New York. The charges against them include narco-terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation conspiracy, and weapons charges. Officially, the case that is being filed against Maduro is that since 1999, Maduro was supporting international drug trafficking organisations to smuggle drugs into America. This sounds like a serious allegation, but when you see the facts, the story changes. According to experts, Venezuela is not a major drug producer. It is a minor cocaine transit country. And the biggest thing is that the cocaine that passes through Venezuela is mostly sent to Europe. Not to America. According to a New York Times report, most of the cocaine that goes into America comes from Colombia, Guatemala, and Mexico via the Pacific route. While Venezuela does not have a Pacific coast. In the indictment, it is claimed that, till 2020, each year 200-250 metric tons of cocaine was shipped from Venezuela. If you compare this number, in 2018, 1,400 metric tons of cocaine was exported from Guatemala alone. Many times more than that from Venezuela. If drug trafficking was the cause, why did America attack Venezuela? Why didn't they attack Guatemala? Apart from this, Trump said that this operation was against the drugs that take American lives. But do you know what's the leading cause of overdose in America? Fentanyl. In America, thousands of people die every year because of this. But Fentanyl doesn't come from Venezuela. It comes from Mexico. In Mexico, this drug is manufactured from chemicals coming from China. Venezuela has no known role in the fentanyl trade. So, if Trump really wanted to prevent the drug deaths, the question remains, why was Venezuela targeted? Three days before this operation, Maduro gave an interview. In it, he clarified that America cannot accuse them of having weapons of mass destruction or developing nuclear weapons. That's why they invented the false drugs charges. In fact, Maduro was pointing towards the Iraq War. In 2003, when the US attacked Iraq, their excuse was that Iraq had nuclear weapons, weapons of mass destruction. That's why the attack was necessary. "Saddam Hussain and his sons, must leave Iraq within 48 hours." But the truth was that Iraq never had nuclear weapons. Millions lost their lives in this war. Maduro said that the drug trafficking accusations on Venezuela are just as baseless. Another interesting thing is that in December, Trump pardoned former President of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernandez after a court in the US had convicted him for smuggling more than 400 tons of cocaine to the US. When America believes that a country favours them, they forgive everything. And when America feels that a country is going against them, they go as far as to fabricate false charges. When Iraq was invaded in 2003, oil is said to have been the real reason for that too. Friends, when the world found out about this operation, people and governments all over the world reacted to it. Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Spain, and Uruguay. They issued a joint statement that this is a dangerous precedent for a rules-based international order. United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres said that Trump's actions were a violation of the United Nations Charter. Countries like Norway, China, Russia, and Slovakia have condemned this in unambiguous words. Many people have called this American operation, New Age Colonialism. Think about it, friends. If this is not colonialism, what is it? Invading another country and taking over their resources. Unsurprisingly, Trump does not think that it's wrong. Trump began announcing new targets. The Venezuelan Supreme Court made Vice President Delcy Rodríguez the interim president. But Trump has threatened her too. Trump had hoped that Rodríguez would cooperate. But a few hours after the operation, Rodríguez publicly refused to give in to America's demands. She described this operation as a savage attack. After Venezuela, Trump has also threatened Colombia, Cuba, and Mexico. While talking about Columbia, Trump clearly said that they may carry out a similar operation there too. Apart from this, Trump once again talked about taking over Greenland. And not only that, Trump threatened India too, if India does not stop buying Russian oil, they will raise tariffs further. "I spoke with PM Modi of India, just continue to pay massive tariffs." In the midst of all this, neither our 56-inch Prime Minister Modi nor our laser-eyed Foreign Minister Jaishankar dared to condemn Trump outrightly. It seems that they have become a scared cat in front of Donald Trump. "Prime Minister Modi came to see me, 'Sir, may I see you, please?'" Another question is, was Trump's attack on Venezuela even legal? The straightforward answer to this is, no. Even if we ignore the blatant violation of international rules, Trump has first and foremost violated US laws with this. According to the American Constitution, a Congress approval is required for any war. No president can decide to do this on his own. In America, Congress means the American Parliament. When George Bush declared war on Iraq, Congress' approval was secured first. But Trump didn't do this. Trump attacked Venezuela without discussing this with the Congress. Because of this, American lawmakers are demanding Trump's impeachment again. The most interesting thing is that people from the Trump administration had said that it was illegal. In November, the White House Chief of Staff, Susie Wiles, had said that if military action is to be taken on land, Congress's approval would be necessary. The Trump administration is now saying that this isn't a war. It was merely a 'law enforcement function.' Calling Maduro an indicted drug trafficker. That's why he had to be caught. But the question is, to catch a drug trafficker, did they need 150 aircraft? Did they need to carry out air strikes killing 40 people? Did they need a cyber attack on the city, to cut off its power supply? Is this only about law enforcement? Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter clearly states that no country can use military force against another country. It is necessary to respect the sovereignty of every country. Trump has violated it undeniably. That's why, the United Nations Security Council can impose sanctions on America. But the problem is that America holds the vetoing power in this Security Council. So there would be no accountability for America. People like Trump believe that rules exist only for the weak. And the powerful can do all they wish to do. They think that if you are the world's largest military and you make the rules, then you can choose whether or not to follow it. This is their New World Order. But such world order will prove to be dangerous for all countries. Because if America is allowed to do this, China will want to do this too. Russia too might want to try this. The powerful countries will try to oppress the weak countries. If this is how the world continues we will be at the doors of yet another world war. Whether Maduro was a good leader or not. Whether he was a dictator or not. How ever much he oppressed his people. These are a different matter. But a president of a sovereign country, without any international process, in the darkness of the night, being kidnapped from his residence,
